There are children going hungry, elderly who struggle to stay warm, girls and women who have been raped, and men who have lost their dignity because they cannot provide for their family. As humanitarians we cannot stop the war, but we can address the lifesaving needs and promote human dignity with sufficient resources and the ability to reach those most in need.
I arrived here last night to attend the Second International Humanitarian Pledging Conference for Syria that takes place on Wednesday. This is a critical meeting that will have a major impact on our ability to respond to the worsening Syria humanitarian crisis. The funds pledged by governments around the world will provide lifesaving assistance for millions of Syrians and as well as the communities and governments hosting some 10 million refugees in Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Turkey and Egypt.
