After years living as a “stateless” person, with no binding tie to any country, Bhutanese refugee Tara Nepal recited the oath to become an American citizen this March – giving him a sense of belonging he says he’d been missing for almost two decades.
“I came to the United States for one reason: to be a citizen of this country, to feel like I belong,” he says. “Here I was able to give a name to myself.”
