In South Sudan, the International Rescue Committee educates communities about the importance of health care and provides free immunizations to expectant mothers and infants.
Malualkon, South Sudan—Born to a mother who knows the importance of immunizations, Bakhita Aluet received her oral polio vaccine—a few drops of medicine by mouth—and her BCG shot to prevent tuberculosis without complaint, even though she was but one week old.
“I brought Bakhita here because I came to the clinic for my ANC,” says Nyanu Malong, referring to her ante-natal care. “The staff were very good. They told me to come back to help Bakhita grow strong.”
