ZAATARI REFUGEE CAMP, Jordan
Syrians across the region were hit hard this week by the first winter storm of the year. It would be heartening to think that conditions will be better this winter, and they should have been. The IRC and dozens of other humanitarian aid agencies have been hard at work, but in the past year the number of those in need has more than quadrupled.
The 75,000 Syrians at Jordan’s Zaatari camp are comparatively well off. Conditions have been steadily improving since the camp opened last year to house refugees fleeing civil war in neighboring Syria.
