Finally free of Ebola, Sierra Leone celebrates -- but must remain on guard

As Sierra Leone marked 42 days without a single case of the deadly Ebola virus on Nov. 7, the IRC warned that more must be done to ensure that outbreaks like Ebola do not happen again. "Now is not the time to let down our guard," said IRC country director Saffea Senessie.
"Today we celebrate in Sierra Leone. It has been a long and arduous battle, one which would not have been possible without the extraordinary bravery and strength of the Sierra Leonean people, who were tenacious and determined in their fight to reach zero.

Now is not the time to let down our guard. Countries like Sierra Leone remain vulnerable. The IRC is committed to doing our part to stand with the people of Sierra Leone as they rebuild their lives. We expect the international community to do the same.”
