The IRC is demonstrating how technology can help communities close the immunization coverage gap. CommCare is a mobile phone application that can be used by health workers to track who has received their vaccinations so that they can follow up with those who have been missed.
Over the past decade, there have been vast improvements in global immunization coverage. Every year, 2 to 3 million lives are saved and many diseases prevented because of vaccines. Still, in 2014, nearly 19 million children, especially those living in crisis-affected areas, were not immunized with the basic set of life-saving vaccines.
