In July, 500 refugees arrived daily on the shores of Lesbos, Greece. Today, the numbers are close to 4,000. IRC president David Miliband spoke with emergency field director Kirk Day last week regarding the situation in Lesbos and the enormous needs that have gone unmet.
Usually a popular tourist destination, the Greek island of Lesbos has become a major port of arrival for some 300,000 refugees and migrants who are traveling to Europe, fleeing violent conflict in countries such as Syria and Afghanistan.
