Exactly one year ago, the first cases of the highly contagious Ebola virus were reported in Sierra Leone. Soon many people caring for loved ones were becoming sick themselves. And many who had died of Ebola-like symptoms were being buried traditionally, which meant that those who had washed the body or touched it in a gesture of farewell had been exposed to the virus.
