More than 30,000 Nigerians have sought refuge in empty schools in northeastern Nigeria after fleeing new waves of violence in the past week. Since last week, 312 cases of diarrhea and 16 deaths have been reported.

More than 30,000 Nigerians have sought refuge in empty schools in northeastern Nigeria after fleeing new waves of violence in the past week.

The International Rescue Committee is concerned about the lack of clean water and food and poor hygiene in the schools. The risk of cholera, typhoid and malaria is high with the onset of the rainy season. Since last week, 312 cases of diarrhea and 16 deaths have been reported.
