The office of the Foreign Secretary (Secretary of State) in the UK Foreign Office on King Charles Street, across the road from Big Ben and the House of Commons, was designed as a salute to Empire. The Victorian murals in the surrounding corridors speak to conquest and splendor. The office itself is the size of a tennis court. Gold cornices and lush wallpaper are designed to be imposing.
