For decades, the United States has provided protection to refugees and asylees who face persecution because of their race, religion, nationality, membership in a particular social group or political opinion. In search of a better life for themselves and for their families, refugees and asylees are eager to participate fully in the economic and civic life of this country. Through a network of 22 offices in the United States, the International Rescue Committee provides assistance and the tools of self-reliance to refugees and asylees.
