From April to July 1994, Rwanda suffered through one of the fastest moving genocides of the 20th century. From 1996 to 2001, the IRC helped Rwandans to return home and begin to rebuild their lives, communities and the country as a whole.
From April to July 1994, Rwanda suffered through one of the fastest moving genocides of the 20th century. Over the course of a hundred days, one million people were killed, and an estimated two million were internally displaced or forced to flee the country. Within months, the International Rescue Committee began relief operations, providing emergency supplies and restoring infrastructure, and we continued to help Rwandans recover their lives for two decades.
