The Active Learning Network for Accountability and Performance in Humanitarian Action (ALNAP) has just held its 29th Annual Meeting in Addis Ababa, themed around a perennial challenge of the humanitarian business: the engagement of crisis-affected people in humanitarian action. As with any such gathering, there were a wealth of rich discussions around a whole host of issues, but the one I want to zero in on here is a fashionable interest in humanitarian accountability on the part of international NGOs and donors alike.
