Syrian refugees continue to pour into Iraq, four days after officials reopened the border after a three-month closure. The IRC is at the border, supporting these thousands of new refugees.
Thousands of Syrian refugees are continuing to pour into Iraq from Syria, following the close to 30,000 who have crossed since officials opened the border on Thursday, the International Rescue Committee said today. Given that temperatures have soared above 100 degrees Fahrenheit (41 degrees Celsius), IRC staff at the border say many who are crossing the desert appear to be suffering from the heat and a lack of drinking water.
